PART IV

The day had ended on a somber note, with Fafa choosing solitude over the company of Romeo. As Romeo lay in bed that night, he couldn’t shake the feeling of guilt and uncertainty that had settled over him. He knew he had hurt Fafa deeply, and he was determined to make amends.

The following morning, as Romeo arrived at the office, he was greeted by a sight that made his heart sink. Fafa’s desk was adorned with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a box of her favorite chocolates. Attached was a heartfelt note that read, “To the woman who means the world to me, I’m truly sorry for what happened. Please believe in us. -Romeo.”

Romeo had arranged for the surprise in hopes of making amends and showing Fafa how much he cared for her. However, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease as he watched her reaction from afar. Fafa’s expression remained unreadable, and she quietly accepted the gifts, placing them on her desk.

Throughout the day, Romeo couldn’t focus on his work. He kept stealing glances at Fafa, hoping for some sign that his gesture had made a difference. But Fafa seemed distant, lost in her thoughts. She didn’t engage in conversation with him or make eye contact, leaving Romeo in a state of anxiety.

During lunchtime, Fafa chose to eat alone, as she had the day before. Romeo contemplated joining her but decided to respect her request for solitude. He couldn’t shake the feeling of uncertainty about where their relationship stood. The unspoken tension between them weighed heavily on his heart.

As the day wore on, Romeo couldn’t concentrate on anything else but Fafa. He couldn’t escape the fear that he had irreparably damaged their bond. He longed for an opportunity to sit down with her, to explain and apologize for the confusion and pain she had experienced.

Finally, as the workday came to a close, Romeo mustered the courage to approach Fafa one more time. He walked over to her desk, trying to keep his voice steady. “Fafa,” he began, “I hope you received my apology this morning. I mean every word in that note. I want to make things right between us.”

Fafa looked up from her work, her eyes filled with a mix of emotions. She sighed and nodded slowly. “Romeo, I appreciate the gesture. But what happened in the lobby was… overwhelming. I need time to process it all. I need to figure out where we stand.”

Romeo nodded, his heart heavy but understanding. “I understand, Fafa. Take all the time you need. Just know that I’m here for you, and I’m committed to making things work between us.”

Fafa managed a small, sad smile. “Thank you, Romeo. I just need some space right now.”

With that, Romeo left Fafa’s desk, knowing that the road to rebuilding trust would be a challenging one. He watched as she continued to work, hoping that the unspoken bond between them could eventually be repaired, and they could find their way back to each other.

As Romeo stood at a distance, waiting for Fafa’s response, a hush fell over the office as the imposing figure of Isaac, Boss B as he is popularly called, Fafa’s fiancé, made his entrance. His tall, commanding presence seemed to fill the room, and he was known for his striking good looks and charisma. He was a man who usually got what he wanted, and today was no exception.

Boss B, carrying a bouquet of even more extravagant flowers than the ones Romeo had sent, approached Fafa’s desk with a confident smile. The entire office watched in awe, knowing that Fafa was spoken for by a man who seemed larger than life.

“Fafa, my love,” Boss B began, his deep voice resonating in the office, “I missed you so much. I couldn’t bear being away from you any longer.” He presented the flowers and a box of chocolates, just as Romeo had done earlier, but on a grander, more extravagant scale.

Fafa’s face lit up with a radiant smile, and she accepted the gifts with genuine delight. The entire office buzzed with whispers and surprised glances as they witnessed this display of affection between Fafa and Boss B. Tracy and Priscilla, fellow collogues of Fafa couldn’t hide their jealousy. “One lady, all in one day, things are happening oooo”, Fafa heard them whispering as they turned to look Romeo’s direction.

Romeo, on the other hand, felt his heart sink like a stone. He had hoped that his gesture would mend things with Fafa, but Boss B’s entrance and the undeniable chemistry between Fafa and her fiancé shattered any illusion of a future together.

As Boss B and Fafa exchanged loving words and shared a passionate kiss, Romeo turned away, struggling to hide the disappointment and heartache that overwhelmed him. He realized that he had lost Fafa, not only to his own mistakes but to the presence of a fiancé who clearly meant the world to her.

Fafa’s fiancé had effectively closed the chapter on any possibility of reconciliation between Romeo and Fafa. With a heavy heart, Romeo retreated to his desk, feeling a profound sense of regret and resignation. He knew that he would have to come to terms with the consequences of his actions and find a way to move forward, even if it meant doing so without the woman he had grown to care for deeply.

Surprisingly, when Fafa’s boss, Alberta, emerged and witnessed the passion, she kindly suggested that Fafa and her significant other depart since it was nearing 5 o’clock. As Romeo observed Fafa preparing to leave, he sensed that his evening was destined to be a sleepless one.
